It's not a perfect fit for the story but you got the tone right. It fits the horror genre very well from text to imagery to background.
It helps to actually know the story. I still don't know how to get rid of the white background and how to blend the edges better so that they aren't seen. Hmmm...I'll have to learn how to do that stuff.
